Si desea dorar los cortes de los libros, existe una alternativa al dorado con pan de oro: dorar con el rodillo de dorado de bordes y una lámina de corte de libros, que se aplica por calor. El rodillo para dorar el corte es un dispositivo que simplifica enormemente el proceso de dorar los cortes de los libros. Con la ayuda de un rodillo calentado, la presión y el uso de una lámina termo-reactiva, se puede dar un acabado a los bordes normalmente blancos de un libro. Cuando se aplica la lámina con el rodillo para dorar el corte, el calor y la presión hacen que la lámina se desprenda del sustrato y se transfiera al corte del libro. Esto crea cortes dorados o plateados brillantes como un espejo. De este modo, no sólo los bloques de libros, sino también las tarjetas de visita y otros productos de papel y cartón pueden dorarse fácil y limpiamente.
Importante: es obligatorio utilizar un termostato externo. No es necesario que compre el nuestro aquí si ya tiene uno (por ejemplo, de un PräGnant).
Conexión del rodillo para dorar el corte
El rodillo para dorar el corte está equipado con un calentador eléctrico y debe ser operado con un controlador de termostato externo, de lo contrario la unidad se sobrecalentará. El sobrecalentamiento hará que el revestimiento de silicona se desprenda del rodillo. Suministramos un termostato como accesorio, que está equipado con un mando giratorio y una escala.
En general, la forma más segura de evitar que se dañe el rodillo es calentarlo lentamente hasta el nivel deseado (normalmente alrededor de 6-7), como se describe en las instrucciones. Esto puede llevar algún tiempo. Pero en cualquier caso, después de cada cambio de ajuste, debe esperar al menos 10 minutos hasta que el rodillo se haya calentado a la nueva temperatura.
El termostato nunca debe subirse al máximo -incluso para un calentamiento más rápido- porque el calor se genera en el interior del núcleo y sólo se transmite al exterior con retraso. Si ha encontrado el ajuste óptimo, anote este valor para futuras instrucciones, de modo que no tenga que determinarlo de nuevo con mucho gasto.
Cuidado y almacenamiento
Bajo ninguna circunstancia debe eliminarse la contaminación del revestimiento de goma con un objeto afilado o puntiagudo, ya que los daños en la superficie lisa provocarán inevitablemente una mala calidad del dorado.
La lubricación de las superficies de los cojinetes no es necesaria y también debe omitirse en aras de la limpieza. Durante el almacenamiento, debe tenerse cuidado de que el rodillo no descanse sobre el revestimiento de goma durante mucho tiempo, ya que esto puede provocar la deformación de la superficie.

It is normal that the roller takes 1 hour to heat up to a temperature of 160º, and thus to be able to work optimally? I consider this to be a long time.
It is also possible to set the thermostat to maximum for heating. However, there is a risk that the core of the roll gets too hot (it should never be heated above 200 °C, otherwise the rubber will start to break down), so we do not recommend this procedure. If you do this, the temperature must be constantly monitored to avoid overheating.
Does the thermostat have to be switched off when the roller has reached the target temperature?
What kind of sand paper should I use?

Can I also use real gold foil on my books?
When do I need to use the edge gilding primer?
As a side note: Primer for hand gilding (pure real gold, not a heat-sensitive foil) is not suitable for use with heat-sensitive (hot-stamping) foil, because the foil has heat-sensitive adhesive included, which is not compatible with that kind of primer.
How much pressure do I need to apply with the roller?
In the past, our foil that we sold required quite a lot of force to apply. Since December 2021, our edge gilding foil is much easier to apply.
If you are not using our old foil (or other foil such as hot stamping foil), a high amount of pressure may be required to make the foil stick. Therefore, you might have to place the edge gilding roll in your shoulder and really apply high pressure. Try to roll over repeatedly from different angles (e.g. flat, slight left angle, slight right angle). Once you think you are and feel like the book has been covered, carefully lift the foil and if you see it has not applied everywhere put it down and fix it to the same position to go over the parts that did not hold with the gilding roll again (if you were to use new foil, this would result in two layers of foil in some parts, which are visible in the end).
